Gaya Navaratnam, a mother of four and a personal fitness trainer at MomZone Fitness talks about the importance of exercising the right way after giving birth. Most moms think that getting back into shape means going to the gym and doing everything they used to do. That definitely is not the case as some exercises can actually cause great damage and harm.
Workout for new moms is very different than a regular routine and there are many factors to consider. A new mother needs to consider her hormonal changes, muscle recovery, and bone and joint strength. All of this means a special kind of routine needs to be put in place that avoids injury.
It took becoming a mom to get me to where I am today. My kids were my biggest why. I knew they’d look up to me and I wanted to be a good role model. I wanted to have lots of energy for them and most importantly, I wanted to be a happy and active mom. I knew I had to take better care of myself.
I learned how to use exercise to help support 4 healthy pregnancies and regain strength in between pregnancies. And now my mission has become to help other moms do the same, in order to be their strongest, most active selves. I’ve been there, and so when I say you can do it too, I really believe it!
